About PJ Mama
December 7, 2008
Hi! My name is Leslie Truex and I’m The Pajama Mama!
It probably seems obvious how I got my name, but I’m going to share the story anyway. I’m a work-at-home mom who spends a great deal of time in her p.j.’s. In fact, many days I don’t get dressed until my kids are about to get off the bus! You may wonder, “Why get dressed at all at that point?” As much as I love the comfort of working in my pajamas, I do feel like I should put myself together at some point during the day. And because my kids make fun of me:) Finally, while I don’t believe in all that stuff about it being my job to keep my hubby happy by always looking my best, I do like the appreciative glances I get from him when I put some real clothes on and comb my hair.
I feel very lucky to have the opportunity to work at home and wear whatever is most comfortable. In Virginia, it gets too hot and humid in the summer to wear anything but shorts and a t-shirt. And it gets too cold in the winter to leave the house especially for something like a job. I’d rather stay home in my jammies or sweat pants.
I don’t want you to have an impression that I spend the day napping, eating bon-bons, and watching soaps (okay I do nap and watch the occasional soap). While I can take time off and schedule my day as I please, I also have to work. Like most people, I work Monday through Friday, or sometimes Monday through Thursday if I’m productive. I sometimes work weekends if I wasn’t productive or have lots to do. I work anywhere from 3 to 6 hours a day depending on what needs to be done.
Pajama Mama Living
Pajama Mama Living isn’t specifically about working at home or spending the day in your p.j.’s. Its about creating a comfortable life; a career you love, a lifestyle that nurtures your spirit. For me, that comes with being able to set and work the hours I want, doing the work that I want. It means being available to deal with life’s hassles (as much as I try, I can’t seem to eliminate hassles) on my own terms. I don’t have to ask permission to stay home with a sick child or make arrangements for a ride to get my car serviced (my dealership has wi-fi so I can work while my car gets a tune-up). It means having the time to pursue my interests and pamper myself now and then. Its about doing all you need to do in life and having the most fun and fulfillment that you can. In essence, a Pajama Mama Lifestyle is about being the director of your life instead of just taking what life throws at you.
Its not always fun and games as you’ll learn through this blog, but its always interesting (at least to me:) )
